More than a DJ: Over fifteen years of extensive experience as a mobile DJ, nightclub DJ, Emcee, artist and producer have supported Gerald's development into a proficient and resourceful entertainer. His great interpersonal skills and good-humored demeanor combine to form a solid foundation for his performance. His in-depth knowledge of urban, progressive house, disco, alternative, rock and popular music styles set him apart as a very special entertainer.
Gerald currently has endorsements with Technics, the king of turntables, Samson Technologies (www.samsontech.com) and Dank Clothing (www.dankclothing.com). He is a professor at Jam Master Jay's (RIP) (of RUN DMC) Scratch DJ Academy (www.scratch.com). From 1996 through March of 2001 he was sponsored by Pioneer's Pro DJ division and from 2001 through 203 he was endorsed with American Audio and Elation Lighting. Through these sponsorships he continues to hone his DJ skills while traveling the country promoting new DJ technology and training thousands of disc jockeys. He's spun in 21 states this year and has made his way onto the international scene with appearances at Cancun, Mexico's world famous Daddy O's and Tequila Boom nightclubs. He's also been a featured performer and speaker at the Canadian Disc Jockey Convention, the 1997 - 2002 International Disc Jockey Conventions, 2000 and 2001 DJ Expo West, Winter Music Conference, the Vibe Music Seminar, Mobile Beat DJ Convention, summer and winter NAMM conventions, LDI and the Nightclub and Bar trade shows. Gerald has headlined with the likes of: Jam Master Jay, Qbert, Yoga Frog, A-Trak, MTV's DJ Lars, Mr. Sinister, Kuttin Kandi, Rholi Rol, Khalia, Jade Starling, and K7.
Nationally, Gerald won the American DJ Association's (ADJA) 2003 Club DJ of the Year. He was awarded 2nd runner up in the National Association of Music Merchandisers (NAMM) spin off in Los Angeles in January 1998. He has also garnered international recognition with third place awards at the International CD Spin-off in both 1997 and 1998. Gerald was a featured performer at the Blade 2 soundtrack release party at Winter Music Conference 2002. On the local scene, he recently ended a three-year residency at Vineland, NJ's Shark Club (now the East Side Café) and performs regular guest spots at Philly's Shampoo nightclub.
Gerald has received numerous press write-ups in the New York Post, DJ Times magazine, Mixer magazine, iDJ magazine, Promo Only magazine, the Atlantic City Press, Mobile Beat magazine and several other publications including the cover shots for Pro Sound, Stage and Light's October 2001 issue and the cover shot for the 2001 International DJ Expo program guide. There is a two-part feature story on Gerald in the May and June 2002 issues of Remix magazine. National and international DJ publications and institutions consult Gerald as an expert on DJ issues and technology. In fact, New York University (NYU) invited Gerald to guest lecture for their music and technology undergraduate program in April 2002.
Gerald has been recognized as the world's first digital turntablist by DJ Times magazine and American Audio, Samson, Elation, scratch.com, Remix magazine, Warner Brothers Publications and Pioneer Pro DJ for his ground breaking contributions to the art of digital scratching. He battled Invisible Skratch Pikl and three-time DMC champion Qbert at the 2001 DJ Expo West in San Francisco in the world's first Vinyl vs. CD scratch showcase in February 2001. He also conceived and moderated the world's first digital scratch clinic for DJ Times Magazine at the 2000 International DJ Expo. The clinic has become a series put on at the DJ Expo West and International DJ Expos.
Gerald is a featured performer in Warner Brothers Publications' video series "How to be a DJ" Volumes 1 and 2; a series hosted by Run DMC's DJ Jam Master Jay. His performance was so well received Warner Brothers signed Gerald to a solo Video/DVD project titled "Djing with CDs" (currently available). Due to the success of the DVD, Warner Bros. tapped Gerald to co-author "The Digital DJ" an instructional book on CD djing. Gerald also produced all of the music, sounds and samples on the CD that accompanies the book. He is the featured performer and narrator of American Audio's Pro Scratch 2, Digi-Pro and DJ tool kit instructional videos and product commercials, as well as being featured in the international print advertising campaign for the Pro Scratch 2. Gerald has added acting to his resume landing speaking roles on "Espia" a pilot for the Showtime network, "Light and the Sufferer" a feature film due out in 2004 and with two appearances on the CBS television series "Hack". He is currently studying acting at Philadelphia's Mike Lemon Casting. Gerald is about to make his MTV debut as the featured DJ in Virgin Records artist Thalia's music video scheduled for August 2003 airing.
As an artist and music producer, he has credits with the group: One a.d., on Ready Set Records, and with groups The Tuff Crew and Two Times Strong, on Warlock records. He released the world's first digital battle break record, Digital Scratch Tools Volume 1 in August 2000 on Under Pressure Records. It has been very well received and is currently being shipped all over the world. Building on this success, Digital Scratch Tools Volume 2 was released in October 2001 with Digital Scratch Tools Volume 3 scheduled for winter 2003 release. Gerald is currently working on remixes for Chemical Records recording artist Jade Starling (formerly of Pretty Poison) and is collaborating with several artists to complete work on his debut EP.
Gerald consults with several manufacturers on their DJ products. From product idea suggestions to evaluating prototypes, Gerald is the man major manufacturers rely on. His consultation and design credits include: American Audio's Pro-scratch 2 and Velocity Dual CD player, Pioneer's CDJ 700s, CDJ1000, DJM600, CMX5000, and EFX-500. He hopes some day to design an entire digital DJ system, incorporating CD, DVD and MP3 technology in a portable wearable user interface.
In accordance with his commitment to helping the DJ art form grow, Gerald launched www.digitalscratch.com in 2001. The site serves as an information and support source for DJs from all over the world. It features DJ mixes, video clips, technology updates, music reviews, gear and software reviews, how to's, and music sites, and an internet message board community for DJ related topics. The site has also launched it's own line of logo apparel and DJ accessories. Digitalscratch.com consistently ranks in the top 50 of DeeJayWorld.com's top internet DJ sites.
